Job Description

Altran is looking for a Software Engineering Manager who is motivated, innovative, and enthusiastic about building and supporting complex software products using the latest technologies.  As a Software Engineering Manager at Altran, you will hire, mentor, develop, and manage software engineering staff focused on delivering quality software products. As a technical lead and hands-on contributor, you will work with teams of talented developers on all phases of software development including architecture, requirements definition, design, development, testing, integration, and deployment.

  • Staff Manager:
    • Grow and manage a software engineering staff capable of executing a wide range of software projects in a highly matrixed, multi-site environment
    • Manage team resource utilization consistent with business and project needs and priorities
    • Participate in Altran’s business development lifecycle, support technical sales calls, and assist with generation of proposals, effort estimates, and reviews
    • Provide technical oversight to project teams, ensuring product quality and adherence to technical standards
    • Contribute to department and overall Engineering initiatives, helping to continually build competency areas required for current and future projects
  • Tech Lead/individual contributor:
    • Perform hands-on, full product lifecycle development activities to meet project goals
    • Work with clients to perform architecture assessments and develop architecture definitions for new projects
    • Participate in requirements definition, technical design, coding, code reviews, unit testing, and deployment
    • Participate in software development process following Agile/Scrum or hybrid models
    • Follow formal software development processes such as medical regulated processes


  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience managing, developing, and mentoring direct employees including responsibility for interviewing, hiring, and performance reviews
  • 10+ years of broad experience developing software products using current languages, techniques, and frameworks with demonstrable success in a variety of domains.
  • Proven success with Agile methodologies


  • Direct, hands-on experience in four or more of the following areas:
    1. Test automation, Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment
    2. The Java eco-system and surrounding technologies
    3. Web-based technologies, both implementation and architecture
    4. Mobile application development on a current platform
    5. Windows desktop application development
      • WPF, MVVM, Dependency Injection frameworks, WinForms, LINQ
      • Integration with services and databases
    6. Back-end Development
      • C++, C# .Net, Java
    7. Database Development
      • Relational DBMS (e.g. Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQLServer)
      • NoSQL experience
    8. Formal software development processes; especially regulated medical development processes
    9. Embedded device development
    10. System architecture and development for cloud platforms


  • In addition, a successful candidate will have:
    1. Experience supporting a diverse team in a highly dynamic project environment. You must like people and be willing to support their success.
    2. Excellent client facing skills and the ability to work effectively with customers to define software solutions
    3. Experience developing architecture strategies/definitions, requirements specifications, and design documentation
    4. Experience developing proposals and effort estimates a plus
    5. BS in Computer Science or Engineering discipline; MS degree preferred
    6. Ability to travel (less than 25%)
